It may take fifteen plus hours to travel to Japan from Minnesota. However you could say we have a piece right here in our own state, just visit the Normandale Japanese Garden in Bloomington, MN. Well manicured landscaping, mirror reflective ponds and flowing waterfalls will get you in a relaxing mood. You could spend hours just taking in the scenic views and tranquil sounds. I've always been drawn to the Japanese culture and style. There is such precision and thought that goes into everything. Down to the finest of detail. Japanese gardens surrounds us with natural landscape, but are carefully controlled by man. Inspired by nature, but not naturally grown. The bridges are symbolic of communication and union, between heaven and earth or connection between God and man. A passage to reality, a symbol for travel and crossing. Red in their culture is an important color representing wisdom, transformation and all that is sacred. The koi fish are considered determined and strong willed to succeed. If you want you can buy pellets, as the koi come up to the surface of the water waiting to be fed.

Not too far is Centennial Lakes Park in Edina, MN. There is a beautiful path around the small lake with many places to relax and sit. One of my favorites spots was the swinging benches. There are lots of things to do in the area such as shopping, patio dining, farmers markets, bring a picnic, walk, bike, paddle boat rentals and you can even play golf on their 18 hole putting course. There is a fun labyrinth designed of pavers and grass with a pinecone sculpture at the center. I think I will be going back to try out some of the recreational activities with my family.

Have you been to either of these places? Which of the two is your favorite?
